Chin augmentation involves placing dermal filler strategically around the mentalis muscle on the chin. There are a number of problems that chin filler can assist with, including the effect of a receding chin. A receding chin refers to a side profile whereby there is a lack of definition to the chin area and there is a more sloped effect from the mouth to the neck. The addition of chin filler can help with side profile projection to improve definition. Chin filler can also be used to improve facial harmony for individuals who lack length in their front profile or feel they have a more 'round' face shape. Chin augmentation can lengthen the appearance of the front profile subtly to create a more balanced appearance. Furthermore, chin filler can be used to reduce the effect of a cleft chin ('bum chin') by filling the dimpled area and offering a smoother appearance often caused by an unfused jaw bone.
